Lahaina Hawaii Facts and Information:

Lahaina Harbor activities

Before Hawaii's annexation by the United States, Lahaina was the "Royal Capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom", as city signs proclaim. The name means "merciless sun" in the Hawaiian language, describing the long hot days;  Lahaina averages only 13 inches (330 mm) of rain per year, much of which occurs from December through February. In the 1800s, Lahaina was the center of the global whaling industry with many Lahaina Sailing Boats anchored in at its waterfront; today and a score of pleasure craft make their home there.

The many restaurants along Front Street offer a broad variety of food and entertainment, making the street the hub of West Maui's night life.

The "Carthaginian II", an impressive recreation of a 19th-century whaler ship has floated since 1980 at dockside just across the Pioneer Inn hotel. This old German freight carrier was converted into a museum of whaling. The "Carthaginian II" was sunk in 2005 and now lies under 100 feet of water as a submarine tourist and diver attraction.

Whether you are looking for a Pacific Whale Foundation excursion, a Lahaina Molokini Snorkeling adventure, a Lahaina Sportfishing experience, or a Lahaina Whale Watch, snorkeling cruise, or scuba diving venture, you'll find these and other ocean activities available at Lahaina Harbor.

Since activities tend to sell out in advance, It's important to confirm your reservations prior to arrival. We provide several options for you to confirm your reservations with the best possible rates available.

There is always an instructor on the jet ski for safety and to give pointers to the rider. Riders will be taught how to surf through the sky and dive like a dolphin if they choose to do so. The rider can communicate with the instructor and go as high as they are comfortable with or stay five feet off of the water. Start Me Up! is one of the quickest boats in Lahaina Harbor, so you’ll spend more time being out there and less time getting out there. All fishing equipment is provided, so bring your sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, camera, and any “lucky charms” you may work with. Also, pack all your food and beverages for the day the night before (most stores aren’t open early on Maui). Ice, coolers, and a restroom are on the boat. Every day on the water is different with Start Me Up!, as the captain and crew follow the weather, the currents, and their own finely honed gut instincts to seek out the big ones. Unlike the rules on many other Maui sport fishing trips, on this tour you get to keep all the fish you catch. Once you have landed one, you have several options: tag and release it, ask the crew to filet it at the harbor, have it mounted later, or give it to the crew for themselves and their families.
